Acer Aspire r1600 + bootable USB + SATA switch

Yeah so this one drove me nuts. Created a bootable usb 3 times using USB_MultiBoot, PEToUsb and the HP option to format the disk. I kept getting eithe no drive detected or hal.dll error. Then, I found this little nugget of joy, unfortunately 2 hours after the fact. But its working now.

"Try to change your SATA settings from AHCi to IDE."

also grab Paragon Free Drive Backup, to back up your new bootable usb, that way you can use for loading OS and delete for other purposes later with out having to re-create.
